On an expedition cruise, you’ll be hard-pressed to find garish waterslides, troupes of cancan dancers or raucous live DJ sets, drum and bass pounding into the night. Instead, in keeping with the natural beauty and tranquil isolation of your destination, onboard entertainment often takes the form of enriching lectures, talks and Q&As with leading world experts. From cultural exploration to topography talks (plus everything in between) your knowledgeable Expedition Team will strive to not only create an informative, life-affirming learning experience, but to equip you with insights you simply would not find elsewhere.
Delivered alongside the ‘Citizen Scientist’ project, each enlightening lecture is carefully crafted to work in tandem with your excursions and Science Centre work, encouraging you to actively engage with each breathtaking destination, share values with like-minded travelers and make a positive difference in the world you inhabit.
Speakers include experts in a range of fields, including art, culture, mythology, astronomy, science, geology, the history of exploration, photography, ecological conservation, and more. These experts may accompany you on daily excursions and will often be found in the library or Science Centre if you find yourself with further questions later on. Many cruise lines live stream their lectures across the ship, so if you prefer, you can enjoy them from the comfort of your stateroom, via the in-cabin TV set.
Clothing for the lectures will take the form of your day-to-day cruise ship attire. Remember that you could be sitting down to a lecture about humpback whales one minute and rushing out to the icy deck to see a pod of them gliding alongside the ship the next, so dress in layers and sensible shoes, to ensure that you’re prepared for anything. You don’t need to bring any special equipment to a lecture, although you are of course welcome to come armed with a pen and notepad if you wish to take notes.
