Nature and wildlife
Owing to its biodiverse landscapes, the Pacific region is abundant with magnificent wildlife and marine life. Various species of whale and seal swim in the ocean and there are 90 species of bird such as red-footed boobies, frigatebirds, Tahitian petrels and fairy terns inhabiting the South Pacific islands. Surrounding the Pacific Ocean, the landscape is made up of volcanoes, mountain forests, rivers and beaches.
Culture
The Polynesian culture has been largely influenced by Western Colonialism with Christianity playing a part in the local traditions. Over the years these paradise islands have influenced writers and artists such as Robert Louis Stevenson and Paul Gaugin. The indigenous people are proud of their heritage and celebrate with regular festivals that incorporate the arts, music and dance.
