Small but mighty, Ecuador leads the pack when it comes to lush landscapes, varied wildlife and rich culture.
Framed by the Galápagos Islands on one side and towering Andes Mountains on the other, curious travelers will find opportunities for discovery, exploration and adventure around every corner. No photograph could do justice to the scenic hiking trails around the Quilotoa Loop, whilst words cannot accurately describe the thrill of catching waves along the Pacific Coast or white-water rafting along the Quijos.
Culture Vultures will also find much to love, with UNESCO World Heritage Sites, bustling markets and vibrant colonial architecture sprinkled liberally across the country. The beauty of these lovingly preserved cities is paralleled only by the diverse wildlife which served as a living, breathing muse for Charles Darwin. From the gargantuan Giant Tortise to the fingernail-sized Red-Spotted Glassfrog, Ecuador is one of the last true ecological paradises on earth.
The most common place in Ecuador to take an expedition cruise is the Galapagos islands. Technically you can visit all year round, however the temperatures and weather conditions vary month to month. We’ve done the research (and sent our team to visit!) and recommend visiting during the warmer, drier months where possible (November to June). The warmer temperatures and calmer seas make for excellent snorkeling, diving and wildlife viewing, as well as sunny skies, active marine life and opportunities to see nesting sea turtles, playful sea lions, and vibrant tropical fish.
